On May 19, 2020, the European Prize Subcommittee decided to award 8 Honorary Awards (to the municipalities of France, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine), 6 Honorary Flags (to the municipalities of Germany, Poland, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine) and 12 European Diplomas. (municipalities of Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine), whose awards are part of the European Prize.

The city of Rivne is one of the winners in the category of Honorary Flag 2020, which is the second level in the system of awards of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

It is noteworthy that the city of Rivne won together with the capital - Kyiv also received the Honorary Flag. It is gratifying to note that on April 22, 2015 at the regular session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, by decision of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Council of Europe, Rivne was awarded an honorary European Diploma, the first place in the Council of Europe awards. In June 2015 Rivne Mayor Volodymyr Khomko received this high award in Strasbourg (France).
The European Prize was established in 1955 by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg to reward cities and municipalities for actively promoting European values, participating in partnership projects, exchanges in education, culture and sports, and organizing European events.

According to the PACE regulations, in case of awarding an Honorary Flag or an Honorary Distinction, the winners organize a public ceremony in their city, where a representative of the Council of Europe solemnly hands over a symbolic flag to the city authorities.

Such a ceremony in Rivne will take place after the end of quarantine.
