Rivne Community Joins the Interreg Europe Programme
Rivne Community Joins the Interreg Europe Programme

Over the past two months, our team has been working towards participating in the EU Interregional Cooperation Programme, Interreg Europe.

We are pleased to announce that we have joined the project idea communities "Runway to Carbon Neutrality – Involvement of Business Communities in Climate Strategies (CLIBUS)" and "European Urban Exchanging Knowledge on Climate Neutrality (EUREKA)."

We expect positive decisions from the monitoring committee regarding these two applications within six months.

Notably, the Rivne community is among the 1,682 partners who submitted 206 project ideas this year. We are pleased to be among the 48 organizations from Ukraine participating in the Interreg Europe programme for the first time.

Interestingly, among the seven new participant countries, only Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented by the same number of participating organizations. As you can see in the graph, most participants are from Italy.

In terms of thematic distribution, the projects primarily focus on energy efficiency, the transition to a decarbonized economy, climate change, and renewable energy sources (70 applications, 34% of all submitted).

The Interreg Europe programme is one of the key EU tools for strengthening cooperation between European regions and countries.

This program promotes regional development, cohesion, and the reduction of economic inequality. During the 2021-2027 period, Interreg focuses on addressing current challenges: climate change, digital transformation, and social inclusion.

Rivne's participation in the pilot project NetZeroCities is one of the touchpoints with our potential European partners. Recall that in 2023, Rivne became the only city in Ukraine to begin implementing a project to improve climate change adaptation and rapid decarbonization. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
